Astro Coaching 101
What it is, why it matters, and why I’m writing this blog series
Astro coaching goes beyond interpretation. It helps you work with your chart in real time, aligning your decisions with timing, temperament, and potential. In this new series, I’ll show you how coaching and astrology together can offer not just awareness, but direction.
The Rise of Coaching
These days, there seem to be life coaches everywhere. And maybe that’s not so surprising. Life coaching doesn’t usually require years of training or formal qualifications in the way that psychotherapy or counselling do. People come into it from many directions. For some, it’s a natural shift after building a successful career. For others, it follows a personal turning point or a moment of change. Sometimes it grows out of a long-standing interest in self-development or a desire to help others in a more direct, meaningful way.
There are many routes in. But what most people seem to be looking for is purpose, alignment, and a way to make a difference.
Like in any field, there are talented life coaches and less talented ones. That’s just reality. Some people genuinely help others change their lives. Others are still finding their way. When I took my life coaching qualifications, I was lucky to be taught by someone who was truly outstanding. He would have made a difference in anyone’s life. But I also saw clearly that the basic training only gives you the tools. What really matters is what you do with them – your intuition, your ability to listen, your willingness to grow, and your capacity to meet people where they are.
It also takes commitment. You need to be willing to stick with it while you build your practice. And it helps to realise early on that the field isn’t quite as glamorous as it might have seemed when you first signed up, full of hope, looking at the glossy coaching manual your school used to market its programme.
Why I Blend Astrology and Life Coaching
I’ve been around astrology all my life, but I’ll be honest. My renewed passion for it began when I thought it might give me a head start as a life coach. I figured that being able to read a natal chart would help me understand people more quickly and deeply. Even without an exact birth time, just knowing the planetary alignments on the day of birth can offer valuable insight. Enough, in many cases, to support a client in a meaningful and constructive way.
In coaching, there are plenty of systems for categorising people. MBTI, for example. It’s okay. But just okay. Tools like this can be helpful, but they are also limited. They tend to box people off a little too neatly. In contrast, I found that astrology, when a person has an accurate birth time, doesn’t box people in. It opens them up.
The birth chart shows so much. Who they are. What they need. Their temperament. Their natural strengths. The parts of themselves that are under strain. Whether they are more introverted or extroverted, more initiating or more responsive. What kind of support they need, and what kind of stories they tend to tell themselves.
And beyond all that, astrology offers something even more powerful. It gives us a window into the subconscious. This is usually considered the realm of psychotherapy, but astrology gives us a head start here too. It can show us what someone is projecting onto others. What they are avoiding. Where their inner conflicts lie. It helps reveal the underlying patterns that are shaping their relationships, their choices, and even their self-image. And this makes a huge difference when it comes to helping someone grow in a real, honest way.
Why Astro Coaching Matters
As I went deeper into astrology, I fell completely into it. For a while, I focused almost entirely on traditional and psychological astrology and forgot a bit about coaching. But what I’ve come to realise is the importance of working with the chart, not just reading it.
It’s not enough to sit across from someone and tell them what happened in childhood or what’s coming up next year. People need more than that. They need someone to help them make sense of it. Someone to work with the energy alongside them. To help them grow. To recognise themselves. To develop strategies, take action, and feel supported. That’s where astro coaching comes in. It brings the chart to life in a way that empowers real, personal change.
Astrology also offers something most coaching frameworks don’t: the ability to work with timing. We can look at where someone is in their cycle of growth. What they are emerging from. What they are moving toward. Some times in life are for expansion. Others are for reflection. Some are for building foundations. Others are for letting go. Helping someone recognise what part of the cycle they are in can be incredibly grounding and supportive.
Let me give you a simple example. Say someone has a natal Moon in Sagittarius, but their progressed Moon has just moved into Capricorn. They come to me wanting to launch a business. My job isn’t to say no just because Capricorn is slower and more cautious. On the contrary, I’d encourage them to go for it. But I’d also help them understand that this next year might not be about flying. It might be about building the nest. It is a time for structure, discipline, and long-term vision. That insight makes a difference. It helps them keep going when progress feels slow. It helps them trust the process.
Of course, every chart is different. The aspects matter. The context matters. But it shows what astro coaching can do. It helps people work with their own timing rather than fight against it.
What You Can Expect from This Blog Series
This post is the first in a new blog series called Astro Coaching 101. My goal is to explain what astro coaching is, how it works, and how it can genuinely support people in living more meaningful and aligned lives.
There is surprisingly little written about this approach, even though so many people are searching for guidance that blends depth with action. Insight with clarity. Awareness with direction.
In the coming weeks, I’ll be writing about things like:
- Finding the right career path through the birth chart
- Navigating career change and transition
- Seeking out true vocation
- Breaking long-held patterns
- Working with projection and the subconscious
- Building self-worth and personal alignment
- Learning how to step into your full potential
- Recognising timing cycles and using them constructively
- What to expect from an astro coaching session
- What astro coaching is not
If any of that speaks to you, stay with me. I’ll be diving into all of it, one piece at a time. And if you’re already feeling like this might be something for you, I’m here. This is exactly what I do.
